"I've noticed that my right breast produces noticeably more milk than my left. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?"

Completely normal. Almost everyone who lactates — whether from pregnancy or induction — has one breast that produces more than the other. You're not doing anything wrong.

Why It Happens

Breasts are not identical. They have different amounts of glandular tissue, different numbers of milk ducts, and different levels of sensitivity. One side typically responds more strongly to stimulation, establishes let-down more easily, and produces more milk. For most women, this is the right breast — but it can be either side.

It's also common for one breast to have a stronger let-down reflex, meaning milk flows more freely on that side even when both have been stimulated equally. This isn't something you caused or can fully control.

Does It Matter?

For ANR purposes, not really. Your partner may naturally gravitate toward the more productive side, and that's fine. The difference in output doesn't affect the quality of the nursing experience or the bond.

If the asymmetry bothers you visually — and it's worth saying that some degree of breast asymmetry during lactation is universal — it will typically even out once you stop lactating.

Can You Even Things Out?

You can try. The standard advice is to start each session on the lower-producing side, when your partner's suck is strongest and your let-down is freshest. You can also add an extra pumping session on the slower side. Over time, this can narrow the gap — but it may never fully close, and that's normal.

Some women find that the difference is barely noticeable. Others have a significant imbalance. Both are within the range of normal, and neither indicates a problem with your induction or your body.

The short answer: your body is working exactly as it should. One side is just a little more enthusiastic about it.
